Choosing Between Cardio and Strength Training
By Anthony Carter
When you embark on a weight loss program, you know that you have to not only diet, but also follow a regular exercise program to the lose weight efficiently. However, the first decision you may find difficult to make in relation to your exercise program lies in deciding between following a cardio or weight training program. As a rule, it is better to mix your exercise regimen with both weight training and cardio workouts. It is not sufficient to just jog or run everyday; although cardio exercises do help in burning fat, they are not sufficient on their own. You have to make it a point to work out with some weights - if not everyday, then at least three or four times a week. It is well known that weight training is a great method of increasing your body's metabolism. With an increase in body metabolism, you will find it much easier and much faster to burn fat and, therefore, lose weight. With strength training you can efficiently increase the muscle content in your body. It is known that a pound of fat burns only five calories a day while a pound of muscle helps in burning fifty calories everyday. So by increasing your muscle weight by only five points you can experience an increase of 250 calories being burnt each time you perform your daily routines as well as while exercising. To add this necessary muscle mass to your body, you need strength training. So between cardio and strength exercises, it can be said that strength training is more helpful when it comes to weight loss. Cardio exercises are a great option when it comes to varying your strength training routines. This not only adds variety to your exercise routine but also helps in increasing your body endurance levels and improve your body tone.

I found that walking on the treadmill alowed me to lose weight, Anthony. However, after I reached a certain plateau, I had to add weights,push-ups and squats to continue losing. Thank you for sharing, Anthony. Best wishes. Frederick
